Roscoe's Wisdom of the Week:
Is the story of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection true? Atheist and co-founder of Harvard Law School Simon Greenleaf set out to disprove the story of Jesus during the 19th century. His findings are well-preserved, and caused Greenleaf to convert to Christianity!
In the book of John, Jesus told the Pharisees, a ruling Jewish religious sect, "destroy this temple, and I'll restore it in three days". The temple He was referring to was His body, the body that housed the divine Son of God. They crucified Him, and in three days He arose. Again, can this be true?
He is the Son of our Creator, with whom "all things are possible". His unique claim is that He, rather than being killed, "laid His life down" and "picked it up again". NO other sect of faith has that kind of claim or credential. Their leaders died, and remain dead. So...is it TRUE?
Consider Peter, James, and many others who walked, talked and spent considerable time with Jesus, pre, during AND post-crucifixion! These are folks who were crucified, burned at the stake or flayed alive for ONE reason...they would not recant the story of Jesus' resurrection. How could they, when they saw Him, touched His hands, saw His feet and pierced side? They, one-by-one, died because they could not deny what they saw. Would YOU die, leaving family and loved ones behind, and suffer a dreaded, torturous death to perpetuate a hoax? I hardly think so. I would not, either.
I join Greenleaf, who stated the resurrection story as "the most well-recorded event in human history", in proclaiming Jesus as the soon-coming Saviour of those who will believe the obvious truth. Will you?
Until next time,
Roscoe
